Background

Due to the pandemic outbreak, more Hong Kongers are exploring local places as international travel is restricted. Based on interview data from participants (aged 20-53) in the 'city exploration' activity, they can be classified based on their time-consciousness and cultural identity. The design direction is aimed at enhancing the user experience for those who have a relaxed approach to time and a high appreciation for traditional and local culture.

Solution

Create an app and leverage AR glasses to enhance city exploration, allowing users to discover hidden places and immerse themselves in unique cultural experiences. The app and AR glasses serve as platforms to achieve this goal, enabling users to forge a deeper connection with local cultures and make their exploration more personal and meaningful.

Vision statement

Seekty wants people to experience more local cultures when exploring the city and gain more human touch.

Target users

18-25 year old teenagers

Matrix

In our matrix, we have experimented with three different dimensions: environment and value, type of culture and style of exploring, and local uniqueness and local design. However, after careful consideration, we have determined that the sense of time and type of culture and identity is the most suitable dimension. Therefore, our final matrix focuses on casual and transitional culture, allowing individuals to appreciate local/traditional cultures while exploring the city or simply taking a leisurely walk around.

Strategy

This is an app that can be used in conjunction with AR glasses. By combining the two, users can freely explore the streets and discover nearby shops and buildings, while also focusing on what's in front of them and reducing prolonged use of their mobile phones.

Select a destination within the app, connect to the AR glasses, and then you can set off to explore.

Outcome - Mobile App with AR glasses

1. Start the journey

Users can randomly draw a location card and then connect to the AR glasses to set off and explore the city!

First, the app will only provide limited information about the destination, and when the user arrives at the destination, they can collect information through the AR glasses.

2. Connect to the AR glasses

After the user puts on the AR glasses, they can connect to Seekty on their mobile device with bluetooth.

3. Start exploring

During the exploration process, users can visit different landmarks along the way. The orange route displayed on the screen is the path to the destination, while the blue routes lead to other points of interest. Users can choose to visit different places along the way and still arrive at the destination in the end.

4. Collect new location card

Following the blue route to reach the blue destination allows users to collect more card data and learn about more current points of interest.

5. Comparison of old and new photos

During the exploration process, users can find the best position to take photos of the landmarks in their AR glasses. They can also swipe to hide/show old and new photos, and take photos to capture memories of the points of interest.

6. Arrived destination

Upon arrival at the destination, users can explore the interior surroundings, gaining access to exclusive information that allows users to understand more about the story and culture behind the store.

8. End exploration

After the user finishes exploring, they can find out the total time and route they used.

9. Photo album

Users can find the photos they have taken on the profile page, where the photos are categorized based on the location they were taken at.

10. Past exploration route records

Users can find their past exploration records and related information.

11. Card collection

All acquired map cards can be found in the "Visited Spots" section, where users can view detailed information about each card.

12. Achievement

After exploring an entire area, users can receive a stamp, which will appear on their personal backpack once obtained.
